Mole Mapping

Accurate screening for moles

Total body mapping has become a “must do” procedure for monitoring patients at risk of skin cancer. Mole mapping is a technique whereby a person’s moles (naevi) are catalogued or ‘mapped’. We use the FotoFinderdermoscope STUDIO.

To begin with a series of standardised photographic images of all your body regions are taken to generate a complete map of your skin.

Then a second specialised hand held camera is used to take close-ups of any moles that are thought to be of concern. These are called dermoscopic images and provide a microscopic image of your mole. Using a computer software program we can then give you a risk analysis of exactly how suspicious your mole is.

If a mole is ranked as being suspicious or a second opinion is needed on an apparently normal mole then you can see our in-house dermatologist or we can refer you directly to a surgeon for it to be removed.

Your mole map is stored and can be compared with future maps to keep a regular check on your skin.
