Ultherapy: Your Questions Answered
We get tremendous feedback from clients at The Garret Clinic who say Ultherapy is an amazing non-surgical facelift. It’s suitable for all skin types and there is no down-time for recovery.
Ultherapy is the only FDA-cleared procedure to non-invasively lift the eyebrow, neck and under-chin areas. But what is it? And how does it work? We answer your questions…
Q: What is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is a treatment using safe, time-tested ultrasound energy to lift skin above the eyebrow, on the neck, and under the chin, as well as to improve décolletage lines and wrinkles. It gives clients surgical precision achieved in a non-invasive treatment.
Ultrasound waves penetrate deep into layers of the tissue where normally only surgery could reach to attain such a lifting result. It’s is the only treatment that can specifically target the deep foundation/scaffold below the skin without cutting (surgery) or disrupting the surface of the skin.
This ultrasound energy initiates the body’s natural response in these deep tissue areas to stimulate the growth of fresh, new collagen and strengthen weak collagen.
No other micro-focused ultrasound technology has been tried and tested as much as Ultherapy.
Q: How does it work?
The unique Ulthera equipment delivers ultrasound energy/temperature to precise depths, in the lowest parts of the skin tissue. This cannot be achieved with lasers, radio frequency equipment and other available devices. The ultrasound energy initiates the body’s natural response in these deep tissue areas to stimulate the growth of fresh, new collagen and strengthen weak collagen.
After cleansing the skin, we would apply ultrasound gel and place the smooth treatment applicator against your skin. Ultrasound imaging then determines the best placement of the treatment energy, and delivers the focused ultrasound energy beneath the skin’s surface. During the treatment, you will feel energy being deposited to precise depths, indicating that the collagen-building process has been initiated.
Q: How is it different from skin-tightening or surgery?
Skin tightening will tighten the skin over your existing scaffold and deep tissue.
Ultherapy generates collagen deep below the skin surface up to depths of 4.5mm or shallower if required.
Surgery, such as a facelift, involves anaesthetic and cutting of the skin.
Q: Why is it so effective?
As your own collagen is being built the results will always look natural rather than a stretched skin face lift look, that can sometimes occur with surgery.
Q: How long does a treatment take?
The length of the treatment will depend on the area being treated and your individual treatment plan. A face and neck procedure takes 60–90 minutes, while a chest treatment takes approximately 30 minutes.
Q: Does it hurt?
There may be some momentary discomfort (which varies from person to person), but the sensation only lasts while ultrasound energy is being delivered.
For Ultherapy to work it must heat the deep layers of the skin. We advise clients on how to manage the discomfort in the way that is best for you.
Everybody will have different sensitivities to this heat. We may recommend, or prescribe you, analgesics (pain killers) before your procedure.
Q: What is the recovery time for Ultherapy?
There is absolutely no down-time for recovery. For most clients, nobody will know you have just had a treatment, but they will think you look fresher and your skin will look tighter and less saggy. Some patients appear flushed, or may experience slight swelling, tingling, or tenderness to touch. These side effects are mild and temporary
Q: Is Ultherapy suitable for everyone?
Ultherapy is an ideal solution for people of any skin type with mild to moderate sagging in the face and neck. It’s the ideal solution for anyone who doesn’t want undergo more invasive surgical procedures, such as a full facelift.
Q: How long will the effects of Ultherapy last?
Ultherapy results in immediate tightening then there is additional tightening over time. Results of 2 years or longer have been reported, based upon the patient’s own collagen production and natural ageing process
Q: How many Ultherapy treatments will I need?
Most patients need one treatment. However, based on the degree of skin laxity, the biological response to ultrasound energy and the individual’s collagen-building process, some patients benefit from additional treatments. Because skin continues to age, future touch-up treatments can help patients keep pace with the body’s natural ageing process.
